there from Moscow. The recommended flight is morning flight from Vnukovo
airport (Moscow) to Mineralnie Vodi (MV).
2) Renting car from MV to Terskol costs from 800
to 1000 Rbls (current exange rate is about 29 Rbls/1USD), you can also use the
regular bus from autostation near airport (no data on it). The way is about
200 km/3-4 hrs long.
3) Base camp suggestions:
var. A: "Bochki"
("Barrels") - alpine hut - the "Karabashi" cable way stop, 3750 m elevation,
80 Rbls per person, facilities: the bed, light, heater, cusine with gas stove;
var. B: below "Priyut odinadtzati" ("The Asilum of 11") - former
boiler;
var C: above Asilum - "Noviy kuriatnik" ("New poultry-house"), 4200 m
as per map, in fact 4060 m, 150 Rbls per person, cusine with gas stove.
The "Boiler" is recommended. No need for the rent of tent and stove. The police
registration is nesessary for foreigners, no permits needed. Cautions: the cable
way possible will be stopped, there is one day ascend up to Asilum. The best
shedule for climbing: 2-3 nights at Asilum with training routes to Pastuhov's
rocks (4700-4800), the ascend in bad wether without guide is very dangerous
(5-7 victims every year). The "Azau" alpine base is in operate. The skiing descend
is possible for experienced persons (25 minutes from the top!). It also is possible
to hire a ratruck to carry you or your gear up to Pastuhov's rocks or even to
the col between E. and W. Elbrus. The price is about $100-200 per car.
