NORTHERN
TIEN SHAN
Almaty to Issyk Kul lake trekking
|
| To proceed
you trip further to Aksuu pass, go across the moraine dam then to nearest
left-side gorge (see foto, the picture was taken in winter). AB |
|
| Also you
can do Aksuu pass in one day, in bad weather conditions it would be better
to stay overnight near the end of East Aksuu glacier. AB |
|
| To reach
the Northern Aksuu pass, you have to climb up the moraine swell (keep left!),
then step to the surface of East Aksuu glacier. AB |
|
| The glacier
is usually snow-covered and has few small crevasses, so take care when walking
along. If snow is too deep, or, otherwise, if the slopes is clear from snow,
you can also walk on the trail on the right (orographical) side of the gorge.
AB |
|
| The upper
circus of East Aksuu glacier is seen from the right slope. There are few
passes there which lead directly to Issyk Kul, but all of them require some
technical climbing (1B* to 2A CD). AB |
|
| To find
the way to N. Aksuu pass, you must turn to the 3d right gorge. The trail
goes on the right (orographically) side. Warning! The slope is avalanche
danger! Be very careful if the show cover is deep! Don't go the same day
after snowfall! It is also worth go early in the morning. AB |
|
| The trail
goes gentle to the pass col. AB |
|
| The col
(4052 m) is marked with the pile of stones and even iron plate which
young communists brought to the col in order to celebrate some anniversary
of their organization. It is said that the human will can move the mountains
;-) AB |
|
| The descent
is a bit steeper especially in upper part (it may be the small snow cornice
on the east side of the col). Then, you can find the good trail on the left
slope (keep left from the very beginning!) The serpentine trail leads to
the wide field with the number of streams (see foto) - the sources of the
Chong Ak Suu river. AB |
|
|
Normally, you can camping on the field mentioned above. The trail further
crosses the streams and proceeds on the right slope. You can see interesting
plant looking as cactus there - the "bear thorn" as local peoples
name it. AB |
