WILD ALTAI TREKKING |
||
But our further way lays to the sacred Yarlu valley on opposite bank of Akkem river (which is appeared only few meters to the right from Akkem lake). Unfortunately, the boat owned by Akkem meteostation (from which the foto is taken) was destroyed by one dummy tourist, so our friend Volodia couldn't help us and the last our hope are the horses...
The 2nd obstacle (after the kicking horses) is Yarlu-Boch pass (2,800 m) which is seen left-to-center.
Yarlu valley looks like paradize after severe upper Akkem Valley- it is unbeliveable that it is the foothill of ice-covered Belukha as well!
For some reasons, one of which probably was it's
outstanding beauty, Roerikh's followers chose Yarlu Valley for their shrine
and place for annual festival. The 2nd reason is that the holy stone (it
is said spiritual energy is focused at that stone and the author think some
the truth is out there...) is located in upper part of the valley among
Mars-like, supernatural landscape. And the main reason of course is that
Nikolai Roerikh considered Belukha area as a gate to the so-called Sacred
State of Shambala. * Nikolai Roerikh (1874-1947) is famous Russian artist, philosophist and writer. See also concerned page. |

To receive as much space energy as possible it is worth to provide large contact area... ;-)
Next object to see in Yarlu Valley is traditional Altai dwelling- ail. It is dedicated for local hunters and other strangers to get rest after or before crossing Yarlu-Boch pass. Some stock (food and firewood) is always kept in this ail, and there are the hearth and plank beds inside. It is also good place for meditation (checked by the author!). But take into account, this is not tourist object, rather emergency shelter, so please leave some food and firewood after you left the ail!
After visiting the holy place, we ascend on the slopes of Yarlu-Boch pass (2,800 m, n/c). Brief look back- at Yarlu valley and Dragon's Tail (left), holy stone is behind it.
Then, detail look forward- at the rare-visited Tekelu valley. To the right, we see the group of Tekelu glaciers, the sources of Tekelu river and some interesting peaks (most of them has no names, and no climb records as well)...
...and straight forward - our next goal, Sulu-Boch pass (2,940 m, n/c).
